I am in the process of developing a range of linocuts on a London theme for a new range of products. I want to concentrate on everyday London imagery rather than the famous landmarks which, to be honest, as a Londoner, I don't see very often. (Well yes, I know that is Tower Bridge)
It is something I have been thinking about for a long time but only just now finally finding the time to get around to actually doing. I love the day-to-day imagery of London and have always been frustrated that if you want to buy a postcard of this wonderful city all you can get are the predictable landmarks. In other parts of the world, e.g. The South of france, you can buy postcards that represent the area with just iconic images not famous landmarks; cypress trees, vines, sunflowers etc... so why not in London?
So this is my misssion for this design - to represent this glorious city through a range of individual images that I can combine together into a whole, giving a feeling of London. I currently think it will become a repeating pattern on tote bags, aprons and of course - tea towels.
